Why Do I Love This Photo?
Pawing through Redfin’s Facebook page for some employee pictures we could use to decorate a jobs flier, I came across this little beauty:
It was taken at a Red Carpet home-buying class (which has become a huge hit, usually with over 100 attendees). Why do I love this photo?
- The main character is wearing a polka-dot shirt and what appears to be a pocket-square.
- He is gesturing with a half-eaten burrito.
- He looks insanely charged. We were supposed to ask everyone’s permission before taking photographs. I wonder what we asked him?
- The person to his right, Redfin’s Marco Vargas, is trying to maintain a traditional pose, smiling dutifully.
- The person to his left seems genuinely amused. I love her smile. She must be his friend.
Any guesses on what’s really going on here?

First, I think that’s his name tag, not a pocket square; but that would be very fashion-forward (think Gossip Girl) if he had a square AND a bow tie.
I think the man is about to pull a Sean Penn with the burrito in lieu of his hand. Marco is his bodyguard and the woman is his always-happy, constantly smiling “handler” (aka PR gal pal).

Marco is unflappable. He would have managed that same look even if that burrito-wielding gent busted out a round of the chicken dance on the spot.

He thought he figured out how the rebate worked, only to be told by the creator (marco) that he couldn’t be further from the truth. The nice lady to Middle Guys left found the whole thing very amusing.
