We are very excited to announce that we’ll be hosting Seattle Startup Weekend this Friday through Sunday at Redfin’s headquarters! The event will bring together more than 100 entrepreneurs from around the country, who will share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups.
Event attendees have a wide variety of backgrounds, from developers, coders and designers to those in marketing, finance and law. All attendees are welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams are formed around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54-hour frenzy of business-model creation, coding, designing, and market validation.
The weekend will culminate with presentations in front of local business leaders, and a winning presentation will be selected. Many of the teams go on to create real-world companies and products. The winners of the last Seattle Startup Weekend are still working on their app, NomON, which randomly selects restaurant food to deliver to users who select for price range, allergies, and any food they don’t like. More than 45,000 people have participated in a Startup Weekend around the world, and roughly 80% of participants plan to continue working with their team or startup after the weekend.
Glenn Kelman, the chief executive officer of Redfin, will keynote the event on Saturday, and Sasha Aickin, the chief technology officer of Redfin, will be one of the judges of the final presentations on Sunday. We can’t wait to see what this talented group of entrepreneurs will come up with!
Don’t fret if you can’t make it to the event; we’ll be posting regular updates here on the Redfin Blog, and on our Twitter and Facebook pages. For more information on the event, visit seattle.startupweekend.org.
