You wouldn’t believe some of the amazing homes and unique features that we discover each week on Redfin.com. From master bedrooms that are bigger than most apartments to wine cellars worthy of a Napa Valley vineyard, the lifestyles of the rich and famous never cease to amaze. That’s why we’re starting a new series on the blog called “UnReal Estate of the Week,” where we’ll highlight wow-worthy homes for sale.
Since this is the big debut of the series, we thought it appropriate to start with “grand entrances.” Everyone knows the importance of making a good first impression, but these homes take it to the next level with dual staircases, elaborate finishings and ornate murals that set the tone for the home the minute you walk through the door.
1.) Open Up to Opulence
Even the underside of the stairs is decorated in this home, which the listing description aptly describes as an “Italian palazzo.” The ceiling alone has more custom details than you’d find in most mansions, with sculpted crown molding, a mural and several layers of depth. The custom doors, antique furniture, marble flooring and wrought iron railing add to the palace feel that starts in the foyer and extends throughout the home.
2.) A Foyer of Fantasy
The entrance of this home is unlike any other, with intricate, custom-painted murals, a crystal chandelier, palm tree and suits of armor. But the wow factor doesn’t stop there; other amazing features of the home include a casino full of slot machines, a tropical-themed indoor bar, an outdoor bar by the pool (with four TVs!) and a hot tub inside a cave. It’s the ultimate place to entertain guests, who will be impressed from the moment they walk in the door.
3.) One Exquisite Entrance
The entrance of this estate is just a sneak peek at the European influence that extends throughout the home. The mural on the ceiling, which is illuminated by a gorgeous chandelier, depicts a nautical scene that wouldn’t be out of place in a European castle. The tapestries on the wall, custom crown molding, wrought iron stairwell and custom-designed doors are all examples of the attention to detail that the homeowners put into this custom-built beauty.
4.) Prepare for the King
The drop chandelier, unique statues, red carpet and sconces on the wall give this foyer a regal feel; in fact, the listing describes the home as a “Grand Chateau.” The estate was designed after the Grand Del Mar Hotel, and was renovated with imported materials, including custom marble, exotic stones, woods, polished glass, rare fabrics and custom lighting. Other unbelievable features of the home include a giant movie theater, bowling alley and ballet room.
5.) A Heavenly Welcome
The stained-glass windows at the entrance of this French Normandy-inspired estate are a rare find. The home was built in 1836 and completely restored in 1999. It features cathedral-like elements throughout, including several ornate sculptures of angels, additional stained glass in several rooms of the house and a cozy chapel in the backyard. Antique furniture and custom art complete the look.
