While most of us wine and dine our mothers on Mother’s Day, these celebrities took it a step further and bought Mom a house, showing their matriarchs some serious love with some serious real estate!
Beyoncé Knowles
Around Mother’s Day last year, Beyoncé was rumored to have purchased a gigantic estate for her mom, Tina Knowles. Located in her hometown of Houston, Texas, the estate spans a whopping 23,562 square feet, with eight bedrooms and 11.5 bathrooms. Beyoncé reportedly scooped it up for $5.9 million; now THAT is a Mother’s Day gift!
The home features ornate European-style details throughout, including suspended staircases, a mirrored elevator, elaborate frescoes, soaring ceilings and granite and marble floors. However, it looks like the estate didn’t meet Tina’s needs for long; it was listed on April 3 for $5.499 million, and is still on the market. Beyoncé and Jay-Z are currently on the road for their “On the Run” tour, which stops in Houston in July. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Bey and her mom house hunting while she’s in town!
It’s not the first time Queen Bey has given her mom a house. In 2004, she purchased a five-bedroom, six-bathroom home in the Piney Point Village area of Houston, and then transferred ownership to her mother, who ended up selling it in 2011 for $2,962,500. Perhaps Beyoncé is trying to lead by example for her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter!

Apparently Venus Williams is challenging her sister for the title of best daughter. Williams was living in a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home in Jupiter, Florida, until she handed it over to her mother, Oracene, in September 2013. Williams bought the home back in 2000 for $310,000, and for legal reasons her mom had to pay $10 to her daughter to gain ownership of the property. The home sits on an acre of land and spans more than 2,800 square feet. It was built in 1998, but renovated extensively in 2003.
Venus shares a lavish mansion with her sister, Serena, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, just a short drive away from their mother’s house. Venus also owns property in Los Angeles, and just sold a home in the Hollywood Hills to “Juno” star Ellen Page for $1.701 million.
Demi Lovato
Some say it is better to give than to receive, and Demi Lovato did just that on her 18th birthday. In 2010, the young star splashed out $2.25 million on a beautiful four-bedroom, 4.5-bath home for her whole family to live in. The fabulous manse is in Sherman Oaks, California, and spans 4,000 square feet, with a pool, hot tub, waterfall AND waterslide! The home also features a living area with high beam ceilings, oak floors, three fireplaces and an expansive patio deck with mountain views.
Prior to purchasing the home, Lovato and her family were renting a home in nearby Toluca Lake, which is home to several other young celebrities, including Miley Cyrus and Hilary Duff.
Missy Elliott
Missy Elliott sounds tough in her music, but it appears she has a soft spot for her mother. In 2001 she purchased a 11,616-square-foot mansion all for mom, though Elliott does spend a lot of time there. The estate is in Virginia Beach, not far from Portsmouth, Virginia, where Elliott grew up. It has six bedrooms, 6.5 baths and some serious amenities, including a gym, indoor swimming pool, an elevator and a home theater. Elliott once showed off the home on an episode of MTV’s “Cribs,” and told the cameras she was happy that she could give a lot to her mother, whom she could never repay.
It’s a well-deserved gift; Elliott’s mother, Pat, still does a lot for her daughter, including overseeing her music label, publishing company and music-production division. She is certainly proud of her daughter’s accomplishments; the address plaque of the home is decorated with music notes as an homage to Missy.
Missy owns several properties in Miami, one of which she just sold for $1.45 million. Perhaps she’ll soon be looking for a place a bit closer to mom!
