Bainbridge Island: New Basics

What to say about this newly constructed rambler on Miller Road between Bainbridge Gardens (where a pot of bamboo equals the cost of sending your first-born to Stanford) and Bainbridge Rentals (where you can obtain a rototiller for a day)?

Miller’s a 45-mile-an-hour kind of road, and when you are on Miller, you are on the way to somewhere else. I’ve been watching this house go up in wonderment: what will it be like and who will buy it? It strikes me as standard no-frills construction, but for roughly the price of a sardine can condo in Winslow, I suppose there are those who would prefer to opt out and set up shop out here.

It’s a basic layout with a big, open vaulted livingroom. Double paned storm windows may be the reason I didn’t register traffic noise. The wall to wall carpet–a contemporary multi colored shag– reminds me of mushing around on synthetic oatmeal, but it’s a greenbelt-out-back setup for that someone who wants a big space and a small mortgage.
