The Most and the Least
On a whim, I thought it would be fun to check out the most and least expensive properties on the market in Brookline and Brighton.
In Brookline, the most expensive property is this $7.95 million mansion. It’s a 10,972-square foot contemporary completed in 2000. It’s got 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms and an indoor pool. It’s been on the market for a while — more than 245 days — although that’s not uncommon for houses in this steep price range.
The cheapest property in Brookline is a 385-square-foot studio for $164,900. Naturally it’s a basement (or “garden level” if you prefer).
In Brighton, hands down, the most expensive properties are at the Waterworks at Chestnut Hill. A cool $4.6 million gets you three bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms and 7,720 square feet. You get your own private tower, 2 private elevators, a two-car garage and views of the Chestnut Hill Reservoir. It’s been on the market for more than 59 days. A lot of people might try to argue with me about whether this is indeed Brighton (it is). So for those who won’t concede the point, next in line after the Waterworks is this $979,000 Victorian in Cleveland Circle.
On the other end of the spectrum is this 296-square-foot studio for $127,000. It’s described as a “fixer-upper” and it’s been on the market for 39 days.
Hard to believe, sometimes, that prices can vary by the millions within just a couple of square miles!
