Hi Mike,

I commiserate with you! In fact, my attitude toward parking has a lot to do with the fact that I DID get rid of my car, since I live and work in Boston. It was a totally freeing experience and, of course, opened the door to all those condos out there without parking. But even when I had a car, I somehow could not give precedence to condos with parking. If the choice were between a so-so condo with parking, or a spectacular place without parking, I would go with the spectacular place every time!

I have to admit, after 6 months in Cambridge dealing with the parking authority and Pat's towing (I spit on your graves! Pthththt!), I moved to Gloucester. It wasn't the only reason, but it was a HUGE part of my decision. If you live in the hub and work in the hub, that's great -- get rid of your car and use zipcar and the T, or ride a bike. But I got a job in Wellesley, so that wasn't an option, unless I wanted to rely on super lousy commuter rail service and take a brisk 2 mile walk twice a day in all weather. I wouldn't buy a condo anywhere in town that doesn't include parking -- maybe in parts of JP where it's almost always possible to park right outside, but that still won't keep some a**hole from breaking your window and stealing the change in your ashtray. It was also the main reason we didn't buy in Salem -- none of the places we liked was both close enough to the c-rail AND had off-street parking. Don't undervalue the insurance break you get for parking off-street, too.
