Dine and Dash: J.P. Licks and Jamaica Plain
One of the many benefits the South End bestows upon residents is the ability to easily hop a train to get to other neighborhoods. The Back Bay station station is three minutes away from my home, opening up a dizzying variety of dining options. Chinatown sits a couple stops inbound, and a couple more stops finds the North End.
I never struggle to find food in the South End; it has more fine-dining than I’ll ever need, but sometimes I want something a less expensive and more casual. Yesterday we tried something new; we took an outbound Orange Line trip to Jamaica Plain
I don’t really know much about Jamaica Plain, but I hope to spend a little more time in that part of town. It’s an odd mix of student-Bohemia and Latino influences, resulting in lots of inexpensive, authentic Mexican food. JP also has more green-space and parking than any other neighborhood in the city.
Last night we stopped at J.P. Licks for some ultra-rich ice cream. We live closer to the Newbury Street store, but taking the train cut the walk in half and allowed us to visit the original location, which is always more fun than visiting a satellite location.
While we waited to be served, I noticed a sign sign reading “W O W: waffles on weekends.” Sunday, we’ll hit J.P. licks for some waffles before the Dash, and when we’re done with the Dash, we’ll try some of the cheap Mexican food we heard about.
