The Sunny Side of the Street

Driving up the Skokie Highway this week, I took a detour from my otherwise direct route to Lake Forest College to see what lay on the Western side of Route 41. I found mostly older, yet impeccably maintained homes in the Highland Park area, with your standard tree-and-sidewalk-lined streets and private, cozy lots with lush landscaping.

I also came close to running over over a cute, cute bunny on the way through.

There’s another upside to this neighborhood: not only can you find a beautifully preserved home, but you can actually find them for under $500,000.

Take a look at some of these pre-1980′s homes in Highland Park:

While you can still find properties with, ahem, “potential” on the East side of Route 41, the West side, there are several properties on the other end that will give you considerably more bang for your ever-diminishing buck.

  • Well, Joe, I'm not a home inspector! But I used to be in event planning, so I got to take a look at a lot of different homes. Granted, it's a bummer if you don't like that 1960's contemporary look, but a lot of people really do take pride in older homes.

    To oaid in my understanding, how many homes have you toured in West / East Highland Park? Not driven past, personally inspected?
