Bainbridge Island: Getting Good on Garibaldi

A week ago, in the midst of that dreadful gray afternoon spent slogging through newly constructed condos, I stumbled upon an elegant open house on Garibaldi Loop. Something a Redfin buyer might find of interest in (I know it sounds terrible) a faux alpine-Montana style neighborhood rather close to the ferry. Hear me out. The warm cinnamon bun-hued interior includes a cozy stacked rock fireplace, cherry floors, and mint condition, well-proportioned rooms. An across-the-street park with serious play structure seems perfect for taking the tots out for a breath of fresh while you sip on your green tea and read your morning poetry.
But just as I was about to settle in by the fire and ask the listing agent if he had any complimentary freshly baked oatmeal cookies available–he told me this little dreamboat had an offer on it. I felt like Charlie Brown with Lucy and the football.
I hung my head and shuffled out into the street, dejected. In short: I got a rock.
For in that heart-rending conversation, I found that all three houses for sale in this loop have offers on them! Good news arrived yesterday, however, as Bill and I chomped on our Organic Nature’s Path Flax Plus Multibran Cereal and scanned the real estate section: a fourth house had popped onto the market in a turn of events not unlike a rousing game of Whack-a-Mole! It’s lower priced than the others, and not quite as smart as the cinnamon bun to my eye, yet it has its appeal. Three bedrooms up, a nice size livingroom with big windows down, a solid Craftsman style front door and an overall well-planned corner lot design makes this house a winner in my mind, especially considering it’s lower priced than others in that neighborhood. In the end, I had to ask myself: Am I in denial? Does Garibaldi have Stepford Wives Ju Ju? What gives with the exodus? But I’m relieved to report that two of the four parties reportedly have out of state job transfers. So now’s the time to get in good on Garibaldi.
