Anyone have a spare DeLorean? In “Back to the Future,” the saucy sports car was turned into a flux capacitor-powered machine that zipped back in time. Seeing this stunning house made me long for a time travel machine. Then I could buy it new, when it must have cost significantly less than its current $1.592 million listing price. (I wouldn’t have been old enough to buy anything other than a house for Ken and Barbie at the time, but that’s beside the point).
This house, dear readers, is It— a killer example of the architectural treasures we have here in the Puget Sound area. It’s insanely frustrating that I don’t know the architect of this stunner, but I’d be very surprised if it isn’t one of our mid-century modernists of note.
Looking at the beautifully balanced exterior, with it’s segmented forms and 90-degree angles, you can tell you’re in for a treat. Inside, just look beyond the dated furnishings and you’ll see a Dwell cover home in the making. Look at all the photos in the listing and you’ll see what I mean. Classic example after classic example of open spaces, big windows, exposed beams bisecting/supporting/defining spaces.
Yes, there are views. I was so crazed with delight at the views inside the house, I almost didn’t notice the views outside, which are naturally spectacular. Back inside, the kitchen is gorgeous. Original sleek, clean modern light cabinets. Sure, you could replace them if you wanted. Or just enjoy their now-popular style all over again. The wall ovens looked very new, by the way, obviously replaced recently.
