Berkeley: My Dream Of Luxury Living Is Dashed

I had planned this weekend to show my parents, who are visiting from England, a selection of killer homes for sale in Berkeley (you never know — they might purchase one for me in a fit of generosity).

However we were stymied with the two open houses I had earmarked to visit — 22 Tanglewood Road, a “Claremont treasure” designed by Walter Ratcliff in 1919 with a paneled library and luxurious grounds, and 210 Stonewall Road (below), a 5/4.5 William Wurster designed beauty with Thomas Church landscaped gardens and a huge deck.

Both open houses were canceled at the last minute due to “pending sales”. Given that these homes cost $2,950,000 and $2,800,000 respectively, it would appear there is still big money sloshing around to buy top-end homes.
