Trump, trees and solar power.
Two local articles from the papers caught my eye this morning.
The Daily Breeze reported that Trump and some of his Rancho Palos Verdes neighbors are grumbling again. This time it is over ficus trees that the Trump development planted as a visual barrier between his golf course and some nearby homes. Trump felt some bordering homes were unsightly and detracting from the value of his luxury home development. Neighbors argue that the trees obstruct their ocean views thereby reducing property values.
Overall the Trump development has likely helped local prices with the huge surge of interest in southside PV property due at least in part to Trump’s nationwide self promotion. Trump also appears to still be bullish on the Palos Verdes high end market. I drove by this weekend and noticed he has pushed forward on construction of more luxury homes in the development.

Also the Press-Telegram reported on the National Solar Tour coming to the Long Beach area to highlight solar powered homes. The tour was organized by the American Solar Energy Society to let the public take a look at renewable energy options. Besides the great information on the economics of individual homeowner solar power, the article had some interesting insight about when neighborhood historical preservation codes conflict with solar panel installation.
