Don't EVER buy a home you don't love. Your parents and friends don't have to love it but you do. My first home didn't have a dishwasher, didn't have central air, had a Linoleum floor in the kitchen & yellow formica counters! BUT it was sweet, it did have peg & groove hardwood floors, and an octagonal entry. It was on a quiet street in NW Glendale near Brank Park and I loved it!! I EVEN loved it after my divorce when I had to have two jobs in order to make the monthly payment. Marcy, you are so right!

My husband and I could buy several homes right now in, well, "outlying" areas, shall we say. But why on earth would we want to? I'm not an investor. I refuse to purchase a home I would not be happy living in for a minimum of 5 years. To do otherwise simply because they are cheap, is to court misery. We are perfectly content to wait, and make the best deal we can in a neighborhood we love, for a home we'll appreciate all the more for being where we want it to be.
