broom The Cleanup Starts—Tips for Cleaning Up After a FireSome are still dealing with the threat of immediate harm from the fire. Others are starting to think about the cleanup. The Orange County Register had an article in yesterday’s paper that gave some suggestions on what immediate steps individuals can take.

These suggestions were for dealing with roof damage, saving plants that are being adversely affected by the ash and heat, cleaning swimming pools filled with ash and debris, and cleaning the exterior of your house. Also included were tips for general cleaning, such as how to keep ashes from being tracked into your house and not sending garments to a dry cleaner (it might set in the smoke odor).

In the article, Rob Sibley, owner of the Irvine office of Servpro and a cleanup and restoration specialist, says that “When people start getting back to their homes, looking at things, they’ll see it’s a bigger job than they thought it was.”

The article goes on to say that some tasks will require a professional, but, to limit damage, individuals homeowners or residents can take some steps immediately.

This was nice and timely. These fires are going to make a lot of peoples futures quite difficult. Hopefully we can come back from them soon.
