Inside the Woodbridge Loop: Half Marathon, 5K and Open Houses—This Weekend

When I talk about inside the Woodbridge loop, I’m not talking about the Yale Loop that encloses much of the Woodbridge community in Irvine. No, I am not talking about that Woodbridge loop that seems to have some kind of prestige for homeowners that can say they live “inside the loop.” (For a look at homes in this area, see the interactive Woodbridge map.)

The Woodbridge loop that I am talking about is the course for the Southern California Half Marathon and 5K annual run that will begin and end in front of the Woodbridge Center (Barranca Parkway and Lake Road) this Saturday (December 8th) at 8 am.

The 5K run is centered around the northern part of the Yale Loop; the half marathon starts out along Barranca Parkway in Woodbridge then travels east into Irvine’s Oak Creek neighborhood and then loops back into the Woodbridge neighborhood.

This annual benefit run began 16 years ago and has official status as a warm-up race for runners who participate in the L.A. Marathon, the O.C. Marathon and the Pacific Shores Marathon.

Registration for this run ends at 7:30 am Saturday (December 8th). As stated previously the run starts on at 8 am. The proceeds benefit Woodbridge High School athletics, other Irvine schools, and Families Forward (an Irvine-based organization that helps families who are having housing hardships as well as helps to re-integrate these families into our community).

With other activities, which include a one-mile lake run for kids at 10 am to 10:30 am and an expo at 7 am to noon, a family outing, in this very family-oriented community, might be in order. For more information on this event, see www.schalfmarathon.com.
