ING The Thing

Have you ever been to a chinese restaurant and at the end of the meal, while everyone is reading their fortunes, someone in the group reminds you to add “in bed” to the end of your fortune?  Suddenly your fortune is much more interesting.  Well, this is something like that.  ING the thing is an idea I learned about at a recent marketing workshop, the concept being that if you add ing to something otherwise inane, it will bring it to life, inspire action, motivate.  Try it and see if it works, it’s actually pretty addicting.

              Foreclosing           Forefeiting

     Acquiring                                    Unloading

                                  Renovating

                   Updating              Blogging

                 Inspiring      Living

An amazing by-product of the digital age is that it has revived and awakened the lost art form of the written word.  With online real estate listings often being a potential buyers’ first introduction to a property these days, it is increasingly important to present a home with the best content possible.  That doesn’t mean that the most beautiful pictures and prose are always the best.  Listing content should be honest, clean, succinct and clear.  A bad picture (or worse, no picture) is as detrimental as poorly written descriptives (or worse, none at all).  So, realtors and listing agents, if you don’t have a gift for the written word, for heaven’s sake enlist someone who does.  Try inging the thing a little and if that doesn’t work, go for the in bed thing insteading.
