La Mesa: “Jewel of the Hills”

A great community for seniors & families

Welcome to La Mesa, a quiet city just East and slightly North of downtown San Diego. There is plenty of commercial activity along the major streets, including restaurants, cantinas, antique shops, a friendly local and a regional shopping center, a regional hospital and a Costco. All this, yet the residential streets are quiet and colorful. The many hills offer breathtaking views and the valleys are a deep green with colorful landscaping.

The official web site tells us that the median income is around $55,609 and the median home price is nearly $510,000. La Mesa has 14 parks, a golf course, a municipal pool, a senior center, and a community center. The k-12 and high school districts seem OK and they sport a nice junior college as well. That’s a lot to squeeze into 9 square miles.

In addition there are community activities fairly well known around the county. They include Oktoberfest, Farmer’s Market, and the Summer antique auto show that fills the streets on Thursday evenings, and other holiday events.

Only a block from the Trolley station, the Farmer’s Market is a favorite in the Village core.

La Mesa boasts a score of designated Historic Landmarks including the La Mesa Depot in the heart of the Village. La Mesa: Jewel of the Hills

Should you choose La Mesa as your new home, you’ll find many sociable neighbors and many places to meet them. Walking tours are encouraged downtown and recreation is close at hand. There are very low cost classes available for tai chi, watercolor painting, and much more. Shopping can’t be beat in East County and the City of San Diego is a 15 minute drive away.
