Surrogate Housing

As a mother, I can say that having a child is the greatest joy of my life.  I am moved to tears by stories of childbirth and the struggles and rewards of parenting.  I once heard someone say that to have a child is to know the beauty of life; to be a child is to know the joy of living.  There are some things people say that have a way of staying with you.  For me, that was one of them!

In last week’s paper, I read an article about trout acting as surrogates for an endangered species of salmon.  I am always strapped for time (aren’t we all) and I rarely have the patience for anything extra, but this was one article I made the time to read in full.  Basically, scientists are extracting the sperm from male salmon and impregnating female trout who are, in turn, laying salmon eggs which have successfully birthed.  Isn’t that something?!

This brings me to that whole Kevin Bacon six degrees of separation thing.  It so happens I am in the middle of a move myself.  To a home that is the birth child of another property.  That gave me the idea to do a feature post on surrogate housing (I’m weird, I know).  There are a lot of properties in the Hills that are off-shoots of other properties.  Some because land is at such a premium and others that were once built as cottages and are now separate residences.  If you’re lucky enough to find one intact, grab it!  Not only are they historical gems, but they make great rentals and/or subdivides to sell off and make a substantial profit.  Here are some to look at.  If you find others, let me know.
