I live off La Mesa Blvd and Acacia. I saw an article in the Union Tribune years ago. Did a walk after the Chargers playoff loss Sunday. I walk behind my house up to Lemon Ave, up to the next street, up a section of stairs up towards Sheldon, up about 6 houses to the section of 100 stairs to your left(before that the other section 0f 100 stairs I think goes down to Beverly.)Then across that street, up the less steep shorter section of stairs, left down about 5-6 houses and then down the 100 stairs with the canopy of growth over it. Then left, then bear right on Date past those 2 million $ homes. Then back down date or finley towards La Mesa Blvd and home. Takes me 1/2 hr. - Richard
ps - I'm a Bass and Guitar Teacher

My son and I lived on Sheldon Drive on Windsor Hills and he went to middle school and high school nearby where he graduated in 1996. We loved living there - the sunsets were stunning and it was a lovely life. Many climbs up and down the stairs and many bike rides down to the village and back up those winding steep roads. It wasn't unusual to go for walks in the evening or early morning and run into a coyote.

We rented for 6 years and could never get the owner to sell - too bad - seeing the prices now! It was paradise for a time in our lives. We miss it!

Thanks for the comments everyone. We just moved here from L.A. and I used to workout at the Santa Monica stairs which was a gorgeous area near the beach. Beautiful homes overlooking the ocan. Since moving to San Diego I was looking for an area to climb stairs in a nice community like this for a little workout as well. I hope I like it. I plan to visit soon. Is it pretty safe? I guess so huh?

I have lived in Windsor Hills since 1990. My husband and I were married in our new home. I love these stairs and it makes it quicker to zip down to Starbucks, Jitters or Cosmos for morning coffee and a pastry.
This hill is a big secret. Those of us who live here consider it paradise. The homes are very unique and the people here are always remodeling, seems to be a passion on this hill. Some of the homes are average looking on the outside but inside, they are stunning. The residents are down to earth, many do their own gardening. The "Village" down the hill is a trip back to a time when politeness and and a sense of community were precious values.
I think that house on Valle is sold. It was only a matter of time...yes a difficult remodel but very affordable for this hill. I live on Valle. There nothing like a quiet no outlet street with a view of the world, yet a few minutes walk down the stairs to a charming village where you can get anything you need. The best of both worlds. We see the moon rise from our deck, the snow capped mountains, the cross on Mt Helix, yet Vons is a two minute drive down the hill.
We are a short trolley ride to downtown or a 15 minute car commute. Anyone looking for the perfect Central location, this is it!

Thanks Susan. It's possible that I exaggerated the difficulty of the climb slightly.

Great post, Tom. Get your exercise while doing your work. Beats the heck out of reading the newspaper while on the treadmill!
