Think Pink and Give Just a Little

3day Think Pink and Give Just a Little

There are lots of people and properties that are in the red right now, so let me mention another color – pink.  Why pink?  Because the pink parade is getting geared up for the 2008 San Diego three day walk for breast cancer research.  This is a cause that is near and dear to me and I know so many of you have been touched by the disease as well.  In 2003, my mother died of uterine cancer after a slow and painful struggle that stripped her of her own independence and dignity.  Her heart and mind were so strong, but not stronger than the cancer.  In 2007, my aunt died of breast cancer after a ten year cycle of remission and recurrance.  She left behind a loving husband, a beautiful son and a legacy of grace and creativity.  My grandmother, now in her 90s, is a survivor.  Radiation, surgery and a large dose of conviction has kept her here so we can bear witness to a life well lived.

Across the country and right here in the greater San Diego area, men women and children are getting ready to fight for a cure.  What can we do to support them?  My wish is that 1/2 of one percent of all real estate transactions be donated to the three day.  That’s just 1/4 of a percent on either side of the transaction.  Wouldn’t it be a beautiful thing to see that happen!  In a market like this, bringing a piece of humanity into the process wouldn’t be such a bad thing.  After all, buyers and sellers who are successful in today’s market are extremely fortunate, as are the realtors who are lucky enough to be a part of it.  So why not count our blessings and give something back.  Not a lot, just a little.  It’s the little things that make a difference and we have the ability to make such an impact if only given the chance.  Buyers and sellers have the ability to insist on this as well.  You can ask your realtor to add a small percent to the commission which shall be dedicated to charity or, better yet, split the difference.  I have no doubt they would be thrilled to participate and it would be a wonderful benefit for them to be able to tell potential buyers how special and remarkable this particular seller/house is as a result.  I have made my contribution already and I urge you to do what you can too.  If just one child’s mother or one mother’s child is saved, isn’t it worth every penny?  Here are some hot listings to get you going.
