Bainbridge Island: A Yabba Dabba Doo House
Now you can be the family down the street from the Nakata Place house I reviewed yesterday if you want something bigger and newer with all the finishes one would expect for $699,000 including the standard slab granite countertops, cherry floors and Trex decking. I got a little hung up on the exterior, but that’s probably because I haven’t gotten inside any houses the last few days since Bainbridge open houses are in lock down mode due to the holiday/storm one-two punch.

A Fred Flintstone fantasy, the two story facade boasts a quarry-full of rock, and I stood there finding myself kind of liking that because it’s different and somehow mod–like something out of Dwell magazine. But for me, the house behind the rock has a typical average testosterone box quality that keeps it out of the realm of the truly interesting. (I personally don’t go for two story columns on my abodes. Imagine the cost of trimming those puppies in fir swags this time of year.)

The garage seems to dominate the design, and I don’t think Betty Rubble would approve. I have been inside the house round the cul de sac to this one and I believe it is similar in scope. Built with the post-stone age family in mind it is all about comfort doesn’t disappoint in that arena. Selling points in my estimation from a limited curbside perspective include an upstairs laundry room and a fire place in the bedroom–the one I looked at was certainly a thing of comfort, with an excellent floor plan and a lot of touches that make the most of a pretty basic location in town.
