Deck as Moat
This is a very neat house. Nicely done from top to nearly bottom. The entryway reminded me of a moat, made of deck, instead of water. It makes for a friendly porch entrance, and then the deck continues around the house with a turn off to the garage. If you don’t go towards the garage, the deck continues around to the back of the house. Unlike a moat, however, it doesn’t form a complete circle around the house. And it’s not below the level of the house. Okay, so perhaps a moat is not the best analogy.
Inside, a very nice remodel makes the space open and attractive. Though some may disagree, I love that they kept the original rock fireplace. It gives extra character to the living room.
Everything was taken care of here during the remodel, from new doors, trim, redone wood floors, new windows–and the info said new plumbing, too. The kitchen is spacious and well-appointed, with maple cabinets and, of course, the requisite slab granite counters. On the lower level, I felt a little chilled and wondered if I was feeling dampness in the room. It didn’t appear that way, though, with new carpets and rooms that were in great shape.
When I toured the house, I learned that the remodel was almost completed. Yet to be done were minor tasks like attaching hardware to the kitchen cabinets and applying the final finish to the wood floors. One thing that bothered me is an old door on the lower level that leads out to the backyard. It is clearly weathered and had not been changed prior to the installation of the new carpet. So when I tried to open it, the carpet stopped it from opening. I’d bet–and hope–that this door is on their list of final fixes.
Overall, a very nice house on a calm cul-de-sac with a decent size yard. And there was no evidence of crocodiles on the deck.
