Hot Pants and Granite

This Andy Mueller house brings to mind the 23 year old bride of my husband’s former elderly boss who announced over the cheese course at a holiday office dinner that a person can’t get a decent pair of pants for under $1200. The brie got stuck to the roof of my mouth and I didn’t say much back to her, just nodded sweetly while wrestling pink umbrellas out of the way so I could knock back my club soda.

The good news: you can get a decent house on Bainbridge for 1.2 million dollars, in case you were worried. This plush bird’s nest is a luxurious almost-at-the waterfront estate without the estate part, and may even qualify as a “not so big house”. The well-designed galley kitchen adds functionality not unlike the extra hooks and eyes they must put in designer slacks. Guests won’t get in your way while you’re whipping zabaglione, yet you’ll be right there in case they get lonely. I’m jealous of the super long sideboard where you can lay down a first class smorgy directly on the granite countertop.
The fireplace in the great room obstructs the knockout view, yet somehow works. I don’t know what that’s all about. The watercolor-like allure of the boats moored in Port Madison as seen from the upstairs boudoir is the eye candy that pushes this house over one meelion dollars. Some buyers may grapple with some of the exterior issues: despite the subtle handling of a rock retaining wall with an echoing curved stairway to the entrance, it’s built on a slope with zero yard, a formidable concrete retaining wall behind it and quite frankly, you can’t turn right off the main road to access the lane upon which it is perched–you gotta u back. Yet all in all, this house has legs.

In response to the first comment: our map coverage doesn’t extend to Bainbridge Island yet, but that will change shortly after the New Year.

We don’t want to leave Anna “stranded” on her island too long…

My God. O.O I would give just about anything to see the inside of that house. They’ve got the outside and my dream home synched up right nicely. =D
