Road Warriors

Well, I just got home from a productive afternoon looking at houses and the reports will be up shortly. However, my journey reminded me of an important point. If you are considering buying a house in Southeast Seattle, we cannot overlook the insane construction zone that is Martin Luther King Way. It’s the home of Seattle’s first stab at a commuter light rail system and when you drive down this street, it’s like being transported to another dimension. An extremely bumpy dimension with tons of orange paint. The building effort is jaw dropping when you see it in progress.
Why do I mention all this? I crossed MLK Way no less than 4 times today and narrowly avoided plowing down a whole lane filled with cones, while looking for addresses that had been blocked off, re-routed, and maybe even covered with dirt.
But, it’s fun! All the workers seem to be friendly and really adept at moving huge things around. And, I’m so happy it’s coming to this neighborhood. It must be how the ancient Egyptians felt when they were watching a pyramid go up: When this thing is finally done, we’re gonna to rule the world. (Sorry, Bothell. Good luck getting to the airport!)
Stats: Light rail will be initially 16 miles long. Estimated date of completion: 2009.
