Take me Home, Country Roads
You won’t catch me lurking around Seventies era properties that have aluminum windows. I’m the first one to slam my van into reverse and floor it out of there. It goes back to the experience our family had living on Grow Avenue when our house molded while we were enjoying a carefree vacation in Pawley’s Island. We came home to a distinctive aroma and a lot of black dots on our furniture, clothing and walls. So, for me to love a Seventies-era house is pretty, shall we say, unusual.
But this one is different. It’s a great find and a fabulous deal, reduced in price, remodeled recently enough to be clean and comfortable, and with a little cosmetic polish and a Chris Ugles inspection, (he’s The Man in this town) some lucky buyer will make out with a marvelous Bainbridge home. My toddler loved warming his little feet on the heated kitchen floor, but the strongest selling points are the quintessential Bainbridge setting–on a rolling hill surrounded by gorgeous evergreens and a burbling stream, a cozy almost cabin-like feeling with big windows that seem to drink in the surrounding beauty, a unique wood burning stove, a big fat deck, and a flowing, workable floor plan. Not to mention cool neighbors (I happen to know them), privacy and a house that embodies the Dutch phrase gezelig which means a cozy place to be together. Out back, I can visualize a John Denver-like gathering round the fire pit. You have to visit this house to appreciate how homey it is.
