Fremont: Deja Vu

I walked into this home and thought, “I’ve seen this before. An hour ago. One-and-a-half miles north.”

Yup, I think the developer of this trio of new homes – a stand-alone and a pair of townhouses – is using the same blueprints as the one who did the Phinney Ridge townhouse I reviewed last week.

The Fremont one was unfinished, so I can’t attest to exactly how it will look, but I’d bet money that it will be much the same as the Phinney Ridge version. I saw different, but equivalent-quality, kitchen cabinetry and countertops. And a tweak to the laundry room that might make it possible to actually open the door all the way.

I didn’t give a complete review when I mentioned the standalone in passing in last week’s post, so let me say that in both the homes I wasn’t crazy about the main-floor layout. A pantry and half bath separate the kitchen and living room, making for an oddly isolating floor plan for new construction, which leans towards the great-room concept.

As I walked down the street I saw two more triples under development, both looking suspiciously similar to the one I just left. Here’s a rundown on the 53rd St. cloning operation:

Triple #1:
807 NW 53rd St. – the standalone. $509,950.
809 A & B NW 53rd St. – the townhouses. $429,950.
Taxpayer’s listed as Selco Development. KCR lists one unit as being 1900 sq. ft.

Triple #2:
838 NW 53rd St. – the standalone. Has a sold sign on the door.
840 A & B NW 53rd St. – the townhouses. $429,950.
Taxpayer’s listed as Selco Development. KCR says one of the three is 1600 sq. ft.

Triple #3:
829 NW 53rd St. – the standalone.
827 A & B NW 53rd St. – the townhouses.
Taxpayer’s listed as GNC LLC. The work’s so new that the KCR records still show the stats for the 1926 bungalow that was torn down. No MLS listings.

  • Thanks for the insider info, Dkella. I explain my neighborhood boundaries in this post. I'd be honored if you'd share your knowledge of Halibut Flats in a comment there.

FYI, this neighborhood is FAR from the west Fremont border - which is 3rd Ave NW. This is officially East Ballard (that is, has its own neighborhood council and representation in the City's Department of Neighborhoods). It is also affectionately known to the residents that reside in this neighborhood as "Halibut Flats".
