Bainbridge Island: Looking in on Lynwood Center–Part 1

When I moved to Bainbridge in 1994, Lynwood Center housed the only movie theatre on the island. We now have the Bainbridge Cinemas multi-plex serving the masses in Winslow, but the refurbished Historic Lynwood lives on, serving as the island’s art house alternative. It’s got plush old-style seats, a recently refurbished marquee, and the following special features as noted on their website:
brisk alternative films
real butter on freshly popped popcorn
popcorn condiment bar
movie speakers in the restrooms
a brief, live introduction to the evening’s film
classics night
and original artwork displayed in the lobby
The Lynwood Theatre also hosts the annual Celluloid Bainbridge film festival a free two day festival of films whose makers have connections to Bainbridge Island. Well worth checking out. That’s coming up March 10 and 11.
