South Seattle: World’s Tiniest Front Window
This house appears to have been spruced up for sale, but unfortunately, it seems like they called it quits before the job was done. I mean, here’s a house two blocks from a major future light rail hub, and across the street from a beautiful park and it’s still kind of a bust.
I feel that the problematic features of this house are rooted in a general disregard for the specific qualities that draws people to single-family housing. The house seems to have given up any yard space to provide off street parking spots for a handful of the townhouse and condo units next door. Their addresses are labeled on the spots already, and the residents would need to carry their groceries through this property’s lot to get into their units.
In that respect it makes sense that there’s a poured concrete walkway that merges this house into the townhouse “campus” and it feels like there is no visual barrier to delineate the two properties. Despite the park across the street, this aspect makes the house feel very boxed in.
Lastly, the improvements made are relatively scattershot. Many of the original materials remain, and not always to the best effect. A little more attention to things like the windows and flooring surfaces would have gone miles to improve this house.
