Do-It-Yourself Home Staging

Home sellers want to attract as many buyers as possible and get the highest price for the property. One of the best ways to do this is to “stage” the house or add “minimal furniture and accessories to highlight the home’s best selling points” . Ardell DellaLoggia wrote a great post on how to stage a home yourself instead of paying a pro thousands of dollars to do it for you.

Here’s a summary of Ardell’s tips:
1. Empty first - remove as much as you can to make the space look bigger
2. Take pictures - Take photos first to help you decide where you need to place objects
3. Bring things back in - tdd furniture and accessories to enhance the space
4. Put the nice pieces where people can see them – your best items should be visible from doorways
5. Lighten it up - pay attention to natural light and put light pieces in dark rooms to brighten
6. Review repeatedly - walkthrough the house starting at the front door several times at a “open house pace” (not too slow, not too fast)

  • Hi, I think this home staging thing really help me in selling my house.
It also helped in raising the price of my property which I was very happy.
Btw does landscaping also part of home staging process? Just curious, anyway great article…
    Thanks for the info…

    Hey Ardell :)

We're still going strong despite the fact that we can't do home reviews. We're hoping that Redfin users will post home reviews on the new forums launched Tuesday - take a peak at http://forums.redfin.com

    Hope you're enjoying the summer!

  • Hi Marie,
