Bainbridge Island: Cutie Patutie

·         Perhaps the old-style aluminum screen door with the little aluminum knob that made the soft whapping sound that only an old-style aluminum screen door can make first caused the stirring in my heart.
·         Or maybe the corner-built brick fireplace with the area for actual wooden logs kindled my interest (no pun intended).
·         Either way, I found myself standing there, surveying the big back yard and its  jumble of mature rhodies and lilacs, an I imagined–if only for a brief moment– a bygone era.
·         (All close to town no less.)

It sold fast– this reasonably-priced little Fifties rambler with great core details:

831 Grow Ave NW
3 beds, 1 baths
1,276 sq ft.
Listed at $415,950
Sold 6/22/07 for $419,000

The exterior has been painted in lemon and limeaid-like tones since the purchase, and there is a for rent sign in the yard.

I was concerned a buyer might level it and fill the property to the rim with bungalow, but for the moment this unassuming relic of a younger Bainbridge Island remains intact.
