For anyone who loves to pass time at Pacific Place or Bellevue Square here’s a twist: imagine living there. An artist in Rhode Island was recently put on probation for building a loft in a mall parking garage. The full apartment was complete with a Sony Playstation 2 and china hutch. The inhabitants used the mall bathrooms so no need for running water.
Michael Townsend, 36, said he and seven other artists built the 750-square-foot apartment beginning in 2003 and lived there for up to three weeks at a time.
Squatting in a shopping mall seems like a crazy idea but maybe builders might consider more housing options in conjunction with these retail Mecca’s.
