Meet Your New Neighbors, Online
YourStreet.com is (yet another) way to network on the Web. Soon I’m going to need a personal assistant to manage my memberships. But I digress.
Instead of filing your musical taste or your Scrabulous abilities, YourStreet connects your profile directly to a map. Insert your neighborhood and browse your neighbors. News stories are analyzed by algorithm and also placed on the map. Find out recent newsworthy events that have occurred in a neighborhood before you move there.
YourStreet is a startup that launched this fall. Once the network is established, the site will have more neighborhood-based advertising. Your local coffee shop could put their ad right in the page for the neighborhood you live in.
Combine retail information, news stories (from blogs, too), and conversations with actual people living nearby, and you could really get a good picture of a neighborhood without leaving your house. This could be very handy for those relocating to the area.
Here are some homes recently bought by new neighbors on YourStreet. That is, if you live in the University District.
