Time dulls the pain?

Emergency

I’ve often wondered if the pain of renovation is like the pain of child birth—God-awful, but short-lived? I think it probably is. But I’m a man, so what do I know?

It’s been a couple years since my last major home project and I’m getting the itch to tear down and rebuild again. The joy brought by my new attic apartment (not to mention the monthly help with the mortgage) seems to have erased the mental and physical anguish that made me proclaim, “Never again!”

“Never again!” somewhere along the line morphed into, “That was fun, one more time!” Especially when I stumble across a particularly worthy fixer.

Luckily my better half is there, armed with video and hospital bills, to abruptly crush my dreams. Maybe some day I’ll fight for a new project. Pull-out a jug of wine and turn-on the charm until my spouse sees the beauty I see. It’d have to be a really great deal, with huge upside potential. Sorta like these:

Of course, buying yourself “the big lot” rather than living in a denser, more urban dwelling, contributes to sprawl and displaces wildlife, thereby increasing the lifelihood that you and your precious children will be cougar fodder. Happy mauling.

Whoops! Commenting on the wrong post. Silly newbie!

So, anyway, I agree that you’ve picked out some good deals here. Random question - do you ever see any “nice” duplexes listed in Seattle in the $500,000 - $800,000 range?

Don’t let your dreams be crushed, man! Your better half will enjoy a new project as much as you will, I bet. Something about being able to say “we did that!” is really satisfying.

Hey Eli,

There are indeed duplexes available in that price range. You’ll want to use a real estate search engine that allows text searches (like “duplex” or “adu” (accessory dwelling unit)).
