25th & Spring P-patch Breaks Ground

This Saturday, from 9 am to 4 pm, local residents will be clearing the new P-patch at 25th and Spring. Residents hope the new community space will help bring diverse neighbors together around common interests–gardening and eating. Following the all-day work party is a pot-luck. For more information about the work and play, see the SeattlePi’s story.
For better or worse (and there’s certainly some of both), the CD’s gentrification continues its eastward march past 23rd to the blocks surrounding the new p-patch. New townhomes and updated classis sit among derelict relics and overgrown lots. This mix means there are still bargains to be had in the area. But urban pioneers need to move soon. Even with the stumbling market, the gentrification push continues to MLK and the edges of Madrona. After these blocks rise from the ashes, that’s pretty much it for (sorta) reasonably-priced, close-in living.
