Coffee Shop of Choice:
Tully’s on Main Street or Top Pot Doughnuts are always great for a treat!
Favorite Restaurant in the Area:
There are so many great places to eat close by! For casual dining we love to walk to Whole Foods or Sushi Land. For a fun night on the town there’s Joey’s or the Twisted Cork Wine Bar, both good for making new friends. For a special dinner we like to go to Seastar, or enjoy the fantastic view from Daniel’s piano bar.
Favorite Places to Go:
The beautiful Bellevue Botanical Gardens are literally right in our back yard, and we spend a lot of time walking the trails there. It is such a fun place to take guests, with it’s renowned holiday light display, and beautiful flowers in the summer! There are so many things to do in Downtown Bellevue! The new Lucky Strike Bowl is open, and Lincoln Square is a easy place to catch dinner and a movie. It’s all about 5 minutes away!
Best Features of the Home:
The architectural details really stands out, with nice moldings and high ceilings, to archways and beautiful windows. We love the open floor plan which makes it a great place to entertain. The built- in entertainment wall provides plenty of space for the latest in electronics and the cozy fireplace makes the living room warm and inviting. One of us can be on the computer in the nook/office area and still be part of what is going on in the rest of the living space. The laundry room area is upstairs near the bedrooms – someone put some thought into this design! Our home also has a private deck and garden we really enjoy.
Has there been any remodeling?:
We put in new carpet and have repainted. We have a nice size extra storage area in the garage, so we added modular shelves to hold our “stuff”!
Favorite Room:
Hmmm…this is a tough one to decide – we love to hang out in the living room and watch TV, or read in front of the fireplace. On the other hand, we both like the feel of the master bedroom with it’s sunny, western exposure and views.

Most Romantic Spot:
Meydenbauer Beach, on Lake Washington, is a beautiful spot for a romantic picnic, and to watch the sunset.
What’s in the neighborhood?:
Whole Foods Market and the shopping at Bellevue Square are close by. We love to walk and bike the miles of trails in the area. Wilburton Park, with it’s many ball fields and playground is just a short walk past the Botanical Gardens. Beyond that is Kelsey Creek, another place it’s fun to go with family or friends. The Park and Ride provides express service to the airport, and easy access to Seattle, Bellevue and the surrounding area, and is walking distance!
What you will miss most:
Our home has provided us with all of the fun and convenience that Downtown Bellevue has to offer, and a peaceful refuge as well! Who could ask for more?!!

Look outside and you’ll know-autumn has arrived in all of its glory. The brilliant colors of falling leaves, the distinctive chill in the air, and yes, the very first power outages of the season (for some of us) have arrived. What better way to start the weekend than with a cup of hot coffee and a fresh donut?!
So we headed off toward a brand new eatery, which opened up not more than two months ago in downtown Bellevue–Top Pot Doughnuts. Yum! What was once only convenient to those on the Seattle side of the bridge, this new Bellevue location allows Eastsiders to get a taste of downtown, while still being able to park your car. Over a steaming cup of coffee, we sampled an assortment of “o-shaped” delights–my favorite clearly the Rasberry Glazed Ring, the perfect way to start off the day.
I love this new found discovery, though honestly not so much for the donuts, but for its sophistication and ambience. It’s an upscale eatery on the Eastside, where you can gather for a lazy weekend breakfast or for a late afternoon chat session. I could get used to living like this and one day I can clearly see myself migrating back toward the city center, where top notch coffee and sophisticated, late night dinners are all within walking distance.
Sigh.
I love Bellevue.
I could picture myself in any one of these mighty fine downtown digs, all listed for under $1 million.

Announced recently, the Bellevue-based single-family home builder, Quadrant Homes, is cutting 45 jobs as a result of the poor real estate market in the Puget Sound area. Employees subject to this change will receive severance packages. According to the Seattle Times, Quadrant Homes builds three new homes a day, which is actually four homes less per day from 2007. New homes are not selling well, and I don’t think this is the last announcement of its kind for a while.
From the Quadrant Homes release …
“Quadrant Homes announced it will reduce its workforce in response to the slowdown of new home sales in the greater Puget Sound area.
‘While Quadrant remains committed to providing more house to more homebuyers for less money, we need to adjust to the continued challenges in the regional housing market and balance the size of our operation with current demand for new homes,’ said Peter Orser, president of Quadrant Homes.
The company will lay off 45 associates, bringing the total regional workforce to approximately 180. The layoffs will impact associates from the company’s corporate headquarters in Bellevue, Washington as well as those at field locations throughout the six western Washington counties in which Quadrant operates. The changes are effective immediately and will not effect Quadrant’s current commitment to its customers.
Quadrant will provide dismissed associates with severance benefits, consistent with company policies.
Quadrant Homes, a subsidiary of Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company, is Washington state’s largest single-family homebuilder. For more information, visit Quadrant’s Web site at www.quadranthomes.com“

Hooray! The sidewalk along 128th Avenue SE in the Woodridge neighborhood in Bellevue is finally done. Not more loud construction noises or distractions (although my cats will miss the action). The city did a fantastic job, and they even rebuilt the ugly/eyesore mailboxes near the intersection of 32nd and 128th.
Never would I have imagined the joy a new sidewalk brings me. As a homeowner who benefits from the new cement, I can see the value it adds to community aesthetics, which correlates to my home’s worth. No doubt the sidewalk is a direct result of the new Woodridge Elementary school that finished construction last fall. Thanks to everyone who rooted for Woodridge Elementary.
Maybe it was the new sidewalk that inspired these Woodridge homeowners to list their houses for sale this week. Like to take walks? Love a good sidewalk? Then take a look below.

Yeah! The little ones go back to school this week. Maybe the not Bellevue children, but that’s an entirely different story. Seattle PI writer Aubrey Cohen posed his blog readers with this question today: “How much do schools affect the market in Seattle area cities and neighborhoods?”
Fantastic question, and I would answer schools have a HUGE impact on real estate. Then I started to think about our top-notch schools in the area. Bellevue, Sammamish, Bainbridge Island and Ballard jumped to mind. Four Bellevue high schools consistently make Newsweek’s top 100 schools list. According to a Newsweek article, International Community School in Kirkland was too elite to even be considered for the annual top public high school list. Those cities all have boosting real estate economies.
What do you all think? King County school districts aren’t perfect by any means, but do you think the quality of schools have an impact home values? Did any home owner besides me ooze ear to ear smiles when the new—and beautifully constructed—Woodridge Elementary School in Bellevue landed at the top of our hill?

I’ve been seeing these interesting little blurbs lately about “container” housing, one of those quirky little trends that started in California. People are making their homes out of recycled containers! These homes, touted as eco-friendly and affordable use 8 x 40 foot steel containers to construct the rooms of the home. By stacking anywhere from 4 to 8 of them, you can add solar panels, radiant heating, and other amenities and there, you’ve got your new home.
Reportedly, there are about 75 of these box type homes around the country, and they cost 20% less than traditional construction to build. Home designer DeMaria Designs offers homes beginning at $150/square foot, and has received the 2007 AIA Honor Award for Design Excellence/Special Innovation for one of their homes.
It sounds like these mavericks who were the first to give this concept a chance might be just a little quirky themselves (and maybe it’s a requirement of unconventionalism). The Pirkls, the owners of DeMaria’s award winning home describe themselves as sports fanatics, and they don’t sound like your ordinary, everyday, run-of-the-mill sports fanatics either. The Pirkls planned to put a zip line down a hallway for rides to the next room. Also on their agenda–swings, and gymnastics rings!
Further discussion about these container homes includes the potential for using them anywhere from housing for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, to emergency housing, to low income housing. Maybe these homes are the innovative solution to housing and recycling issues!
In case you’re wondering what else can you get for the same price/sq. ft. on the Eastside–I wondered the same thing and found these properties for around $150/square foot (land included!):
