Emerald Hills Scores
The Emerald Hills neighborhood of Redwood City has long awaited the revitalization of the Community Market shopping center located at the corner of Canyon and Oak Knoll. After 15 years, development plans were implemented in 2006 and, lo and behold, Emerald Market was born. Completely remodeled inside, with new façade, patio and eating area, this high-end neighborhood market seems to have won over the hearts of the local shoppers. In addition to offering the basics, the market boasts a fresh meat and fish counter, full-service deli with hot and cold take-out, bakery, and organic fruits and veggies. The owners have done their homework in attempting to meet the needs of the community they serve.
In addition to the new market, the free-standing commercial building on the same lot is under reconstruction. Currently housing long-term tenants Canyon Coffee and Canyon Cleaners, as well as newer tenants such as Sancho’s Mexican restaurant (which received high praise from the SF Chronicle and on Yelp), Cielo Salon, Scoops Ice Cream, Paymon’s Real Estate, and a Curves exercise studio. Still to come is an expansion by Sancho’s into the old liquor store, which will more than double the footage of this take-out restaurant, and allow seating for 40, and a move by the Canyon Cleaners into the space directly adjacent.
While this property has been in turmoil for the last year, lacking parking for existing tenants, the new paving has increased parking spaces two-fold and the lot fills up on a daily basis. Customers are returning to the existing businesses and many of those in the neighborhood feel all is right with the world again.
