Belmont: A Rare Bird
It is not often that you see a single-family home in a community with common grounds, homeowner’s dues ($171/month), and CC&Rs, but there is one on the market right now and it’s a beauty. It is also a commuter’s dream home. If you are like many Peninsula couples, one of you heads toward Silicon Valley and one heads to San Francisco. Finding a middle ground with easy access to transportation and freeways can be difficult, but his home is within walking distance of CalTrain and has easy access via Ralston Avenue to both Highway 101 and 92/280. Doesn’t get much better than that.
New on the market, and offered at $959,000, this three-year-old Ross Woods Community is located at 31 Edgewood Place in Belmont. This three-story 1,900-square-foot home has a contemporary exterior of wood shingles. The first level consists of a two-car garage with bonus storage area and the first set (of many) stairs. Once you reach the front door, you head up a second set of stairs, to the main living area. This level consists of an open living/dining area that leads to a wood deck, completely remodeled kitchen/family room combo, and half bath. The kitchen received all new stainless appliancaes two months ago, as well as granite slab countertops. I would think that this is a good floor plan for entertaining, always one of my criteria, and the pristine hardwood floors throughout add to the sense of flow. The downside here is that there is no back yard (other than a narrow, sloped greenbelt), and your view from the deck is that of a very large, two-story, single-family home and yard.
Heading up another set of stairs is the third level, where there is a master suite, with walk-in closet, separate toilet area, deep tub, granite counters, and large glass-enclosed shower. This floor also contains a laundry closet, two good-sized bedrooms, one of which boasted green and blue paint and tropical fish wallpaper, and a purple bathroom with a shower over tub combo. The colors may not be to everyone’s tastes, but that is a small niggle.
Overall this house has been well maintained and is in excellent condition, as is the exterior of this single-family home community. This is brand new on the market, priced at $507/square foot, and I predict it won’t last long.
