Bodega Bay: When Pebble Beach is Too Expensive

sf%20blog1%202 21 Bodega Bay: When Pebble Beach is Too Expensive

Bodega Harbour is everything the Village is not. It’s snooty. It’s on a golf course. It’s got an HOA. But the views are unbeatable, and the ocean is just a path away from this house, so you can get your tootsies (and canine pets too) in the sand in under 5 minutes. The agent calls this a modern style cottage that’s ready for a complete makeover. Easy for her to say! (She has a rep for dealing only with the very rich and the very eager.)

I’ve lived in both the Village and the Harbour, and they both have their good points. The Harbour has full time security and no overhead wires. There are some nice people here, but most are rich enough to be here just part-time. So hearing them have their weekend fun while you slave away on the broken shingles can get depressing, even if the view is inspiring!

The clubhouse has a heated pool, gender-specific saunas, tennis courts, a newly bistro-ized restaurant and a pro shop for the golfers. The Links at Bodega Harbour is world class; residents play at a discounted rate – being that the homeowners subsidize the golf course by paying $250 a month each, it’s the least they can do. Like with the cottage above, the furniture here is included. But you’ll need a truck to dispatch it – putting furniture on this curb will get you stink-eye from your neighbors and a citation from the HOA.

Check out those pics! The house has jutting wings that make it look like it was designed by a Trekkie on acid. Perhaps it was — at circa 1973, it’s one of the oldest bergs in the ‘hood. The wood siding looks dry, so a termite inspection might reveal more repairs than you are bargaining for. Part of the roof is sod, which sounds organico-cool, but it’s gonna be damn hard to get a mower up there. This house is perfect starter swank for a divorced man with a strong back, a good swing on his hammer and no kids. Play Misty for me.
