Oakland: A Cut Above
Every time I pass this building on Alcatraz Avenue I think what a great job someone has done restoring it. It’s a breath of fresh air on a busy road which doesn’t always offer the most salubrious-looking buildings.
Painted a pleasing shade of taupe it has a stylish Art Deco exterior (although it seems it’s a 1950s build) which the picture above doesn’t really do justice to.
There are apparently three two-bedroom units for sale in the building at $479,000 each and, although I haven’t had a chance to visit, the photos suggest the interiors, including the communal areas, are nicely decorated and well maintained.
It is in North Oakland close to the Berkeley border and Telegraph Avenue and a short walk from good shops and restaurants on College Avenue.
