Berkeley: The Chosen One
This was the street. This was where I was going to live when I bought a home in Berkeley. This was what I decided not long after moving here.
Hillegass Avenue, sandwiched between College and Telegraph, runs north to south almost from the university down to Alcatraz. At its apex is Berkeley’s infamous People’s Park. There’s also Willard Park. The street is half in Berkeley and half in Oakland which is important to know if you are concerned about school districts and the like.
And it’s a truly charming street. Relatively quiet, leafy and full of interesting homes. Until recently, local author/hero Michael Pollan lived nearby.
With its Italianesque tiles in the bathroom and touches of exposed brick, this 2-bedroom contemporary condo priced at $499,000 has a Mediterranean feel to it. The patio garden looks pretty too.
I ended up not moving there. Maybe you will.
