Fremont: BBQ Tonight?

When I first walked in to 42705 Hamilton Way I wasn’t expecting much for $589,000. The homes in this neighborhood date back to the ’50s so they are older tract homes. So keeping that in mind as I toured this 1,376 sq. ft. house I could envision this as a fixer-upper/starter home. The owner has done some remodeling like adding on a nice sized bonus room with a brick structure in the corner ready for a wood-burning stove perhaps? The 3 bdrms and 2 baths are in good shape and the typical fare for this era.

There are some ‘situations’ shall we call them (?) that would add challenge to one’s life. Like the built-in wall oven in the kitchen that has the refrigerator right in front of it. There is enough room to open the oven door, but you have to access the oven from the side. And the built-in BBQ in the backyard that is situated so the person BBQing can be facing the patio while they cook…but really no way to get back there to cook without trampling down plants and tripping over bricks. Then there’s the big pond (6 ft. across) with no drain. There is a nice swing set-play area in the backyard so the kids can watch Daddy as he attempts to climb behind the BBQ with a platter of hamburgers and trips and falls into the pond. But life is all about making those fond memories, isn’t it?

Another thing to consider when sizing up this house is the fact that behind the backyard is a stream (part of city drainage) with water in it that tends to attract mosquitoes in the summer. And on the other side of that is Fremont Blvd. which does get noisy at times. Ask me, I know because I live near here! But it can still be a good investment and that’s what real estate is about, right? Besides, the Irvington area of Fremont has a nice small-town feel to it.
