Berkeley: Perfectly Placed Craftsman

If only you could teleport the house you lust after to the spot you love…
The location of this $1,150,000 4-bed/1.5 bath Craftsman home in the Elmwood is everything you would wish for this home on Benvenue which had everything going for it except for its location.
Kelsey Street is a cul-de-sac and this house sits snugly at its “cul” (which means “butt” as you know, but don’t let that put you off).
Most of the features of a classic Craftsman are here – elegant, if dark, living and dining rooms and lots of woodwork, although much of it looks like it’s had too much attention from a pesky dog or cat. There were scratch marks everywhere.
Two long balconies on the first and second floor are an asset.

Some of the layout is strange – a toilet and laundry room can only be reached by going outside. The kitchen could do with some updating and its floor looked like a laminate which is a shame in a house which should be showing off its wood glories.
The garden, while a decent size and not overlooked, is to the home’s right-hand side rather than at the back.
Extremely steep steps, verging on a ladder really, lead up into an attic which offers a glimpse of the Bay.
Given the location, the price point, and the home’s improvement potential, I don’t expect there will be a lack of offers.
