Townhome or Single Family Home: Which to Choose?
One of the toughest decisions for new home buyers is choosing between a nicer townhome or an entry level single family home. There are many things to consider when your price range overlaps these two options, and this is a decision to make carefully. You will live with the results for several years!
First of all, do you value modern, new appliances above “character”? If so, then you will be happiest with one of the modern townhomes available, which usually feature new and efficient appliances and conveniences. Many entry level homes are older, and have older appliances which will need replaced soon, if not immediately.
Secondly, do you have or want pets? Many townhomes have small or nonexistent yards – this is fine for many cats but if your dream is a large dog, it will not work.
Many townhomes also offer community pools, work-out facilities, and clubhouses. These facilities are excellent places to make new friends and reach out to others. If you are a single person just moving in to the area, moving to a home may isolate you – but a townhome complex offers fertile ground for meeting others and making new friends.
If you enjoy working on a house and Home Depot is where you spend your holidays – then an older entry level home may be perfect for you. Sweat equity is still a great way to build capital -and seeing the fruits of your home improvement labors is very rewarding.
Whichever option you choose, there are plenty of great homes to choose from!
