Spotlight On Neglected Northern Californian Modernists

Inspired by my colleague Kris Newby in Palo Alto, and her recommendation of a book on California Bungalow kitchens, I want to draw your attention today to a wonderful, recently published book on modernist marvels in Northern California.
In “NorCalMod“, Pierluigi Serraino redresses the balance of attention which has been focused primarily on Southern California and its bevy of modernist beauties by identifying and showcasing many homes in Northern California which, as he puts it, have “been under the radar of historical memory for some time.”

Savor descriptions and vintage photographs of Beverley David Thorne’s Hahn House in El Cerrito, Richard Neutra’s Nelson House in Orinda or Henry Hill’s own home in the Berkeley Hills, among others, and allow yourself to dream.
