Its Never Too Early to Prepare for Winter!

winter Its Never Too Early to Prepare for Winter!

Its August, and winter will be upon us before we know it.  Remember the old Boy Scout adage – be prepared!

Make sure that your furnace filters are clean, and that you have swept behind those appliances to keep energy costs down.   Have a good gutter cleaning service come out and clean your gutters to prevent any nasty water build up or leaks.

Check your roof – is it in good shape?  If not, a leak could cost you thousands of dollars of damage if it warps or damages your framing.

Review last year’s heating bills – is there something that can be done to cut this down?  How old is your furnace?  If it is 10 or more years old, a new one could pay for itself in short order.   Have a furnace service company come out and take a look at your electronic ignition, if the timing is off, this could be costing you extra.

Turning down your thermostat just 10% during the day can save up to 10% in energy costs – and you can save even more if you turn it down at night as well.   Adding an attractive gas or propane wall heater to critical rooms will allow you to stay warm while saving money.   Unlike the heater products of yesterday, the newer wall heaters are attractive and safe – and burn fuel efficiently.
