Price Reduction Frenzy

Prices of homes are being slashed big time now. I thought it was major when someone shaved five grand off their house selling price. But check these places out in and around the Irvington district of Fremont.

6228 Buena Vista Dr. #A 3/2 – 1473 SF $478,888 (was $488,888—something about 8’s?) This is a pretty decent sized place for being an ‘attached’ dwelling. Although a black toilet seat (shown in detail pictures) would make me feel like I am using the school restroom! Check out that community swimming pool. I so want to be there right now. The temperature here in Fremont has been in the 90’s all week long so far. Pant, pant!!

42565 Charleston Way – 3/2 – 1150 SF $550,000 (was $575,000—now that’s a major drop in price!) These type homes are great for a first time buyer, especially at this price.

42837 Homewood St. – 4/2 – 1407 SF $659,850 (was $684,500) This home looks fabulous for the price. And check out that shower! A couple of the people in my house take way too long in the shower but with that many faucets they could turn them all on at once, and get every nook ‘n cranny clean in half the time. Woo-hoo!

39550 Pardee Ct. – 4/2 – 1330 SF $599,888 (was $615,000) A great deal for this size house! It looks very well maintained. Again with the 8’s. What’s with putting 888 in the asking price?!? As long as 666 doesn’t get popular.

Building Paper – A heavy waterproofed paper used as sheathing in exterior walls, or in roof construction as insulation and protection against moisture.

I agree. As a buyer sitting on the sidelines, I would be motivated to buy a house at 2003-2004 prices. Until the prices go down to those levels, I am holding off. I have no desire to lose my down payment equity by buying an overpriced home.

Thank you Roser! I did not know that about the 8's. Now I feel much better when I see all those 8's and I do hope it brings good luck to the seller. Yes, I agree with the pricing of houses. And 1/2 million dollars for a starter home does sound outrageous...but not for the Bay Area these days. Sad isn't it?

Chinese consider 8's to be lucky. (4 means death and is unlucky) As a buyer, price reductions of 5% don't seem significant to me. A reduction of 10% or more might catch my interest. Of course these reductions are all relative to the original asking price, which were likely overpriced to begin with.
