Berkeley: Picking A Place Near A Park

Berkeley has more than its share of parks. In fact you could visit a different one each week of the year as there are 52 of them as my fellow blogger at “Walking Berkeley” recently pointed out.

I discovered Codornices park (above) in North Berkeley this summer when my kids attended a soccer camp there. It’s spacious and, being elevated, offers glimpses of views. There’s a large playground, including a thrilling-looking concrete slide, and directly opposite the park is the city’s charming Rose Garden.

There are three homes for sale within easy walking distance of this green oasis:

3040 Buena Vista Way (pictured above — and which looks particularly intriguing to me) is a 4/4.5 contemporary originally designed by Rigg & Taylor. It’s been on Redfin for 23 days at $1,595,000.

1185 Glen Avenue is a 3/2.5 updated contemporary with the de rigueur granite countertops and a whirlpool bath. Price: $1,750,000.

1142 High Court, a 4/2.5 contemporary is described as having “more [to it] than meets the eye” and city lights views. Price: $1,600,000.
