Hi ladies, I appreciate your comments and want to reiterate that I don't mean to cast all of SOMA as evil/crime ridden; you're both right that there is much more to the area than the Tenderloin! And I am pretty sure whoever robbed me was not local; they used my credit card to fill up at a gas station before I could cancel it, which screams bridge or tunnel to me.

Anyway, thanks for the real resident SOMA commentary. That's at least as valuable as Crime Maps and Blogs!

I currently reside at New Montgomery st which is very close to ROE. In my couple years of living here I have never felt threatened by anyone nor have I ever been bothered while walking at night. When living in a large city like anywhere you need to be aware of your surroundings of course. This part of Soma is very different from the mid-market area of soma. I love in a lovely, worldclass neighborhood, Palace Hotel, SF Moma, W hotel, Yerba Buena Gardens......... need I say more. I love San Francico and hey if you want a neighborhood with no crime and a new kitchen check out Waverly Iowa, I lived there too and trust me you pay for what you get!

I live on 11th and Howard. I think it's made out to be worse than it is, but you have to be careful (as you would be anywhere in the city). Lock your car, don't leave stuff sitting out in your car that someone might want, be street smart, that kind of thing. If you are willing to do this, you can sometimes get more for your money- I did!
