Gilroy Bargains: Commutable, and Next to An Outlet Mall

Looking for an area that is remote to Silicon Valley, yet an easy commute? The town of Gilroy, once only considered a farming community, is now home to many new developments and even a premiere outlet mall.

Because of its agricultural past, homes in Gilroy tend to run about 10-20% cheaper than homes in San Jose. The commute is up highway 101, and tends to be quite doable if you can leave early in the morning before congestion occurs.

Gilroy is also the home to the world famous Garlic Festival – over 100K people come every year to celebrate the harvest, and enjoy unusual treats such as garlic ice cream, and garlic confections.

Only seven miles from the Leavesley road exit onto highway 101, this parcel has all geotechnical reports completed and has PG&E service to the road already, making development much easier than if in the “wild” – a condition often found when purchasing land in the Los Gatos Mountains. The price? A mere $548,888 – a bargain for that much land.

Easy freeway access is another selling point of this home, and is true of most residences in the town of Gilroy.

Gilroy is a great place to consider if you want to live away from the valley, yet want a relatively easy commute. Not to mention easy access to the Garlic Festival………..

  • Gilroy lies within Santa Clara County, and many of our readers are looking to get away yet have a reasonable commute. This is why I cover this area.

Thanks for the clarification. I was confused because the link for 958 Bosco Lane in Gilroy linked to the listing within Redfin, which I thought was odd if it wasn't within it's service area.

  • Kaydee

You are correct, but that does not mean that we shouldn't cover it if our readers are interested. Our goal at Sweet Digs isn't to promote Redfin properties; it's to bring you the best blog about Bay Area real estate. Yes we toot Redfin's horn, tout their great search features, and link addresses to their website, but we are indie writers, not Redfin employees and we endeavor to do what is best and most beneficial to our readership.

  • Kaydee

I thought Gilroy was out of the service area of Redfin...??
